1970 corn subsidies, an enzyme invented by Japanese and sugar import restrictions altered the diet of Americans, and resulted in epidemics of type II diabetes, obesity, heart disease and a myriad of other disorders that conspired to increase the cost of medical care. Ethanol is counter-productive, but its subsidies have increased. Federal support of mercantilist profits is bad enough, but poisoning American to do it is evil. Now the federals are rushing to the rescue with more Socialized medicine while they continue to subsidize corn and tobacco at our expense. Who needs enemies when you have the fedearl government?
